The Gardener's Notepad

White flowers give way to shiny red berries in Fall. Requires pollination, and a little help to brave the Winter wind. Several years ago, I had a perfect specimen planted under a large Cryptomeria japonica. It received about two hours (max) of morning sunshine before it was in the dark, and it loved it! And it was protected from the wind, so it didn't have many worries. To my horror, during building renovations somebody operating back-hoe, having no sense of respect for horticulture (so typical), destroyed it beyond the point of realistic salvage! Oh, why why why?!
