The Gardener's Notepad
Crape myrtle are deciduous, upright, spreading, multi-stemmed shrubs or small trees. The family is known for its long bloom period, exfoliating bark, and superb fall color. Round seed pods appear after flowering, and persist into winter. 'Hopi' is a particularly mildew resistant hybrid with a compact growth habit, eventually reaching 10-12' tall and almost as wide in protected areas.
