The Gardener's Notepad

Collector conifer of the year in 2008! A very distinctive spreading Nest Spruce that cones heavily at a young age. Cones are bright red/pink in Spring and are incredibly attractive. Prefers soil with good drainage, and likes to be a little cooler than some of the other Spruce. Part shade is an option. One has been planted in our perimeter display garden, in soil who's actual quality is a subject of debate, and so far it is happy enough. Makes a very attractive specimen either as a bush or when grafted on a small standard. Low spreading habit with drooping branches. Nothing else quite like it.
