The Gardener's Notepad
Is it a shrub or is it a tree? After some indecision, it has been placed in the tree category. Marketed as a 'shrub' to wishful thinkers, but reality sinks in upon seeing numerous tall specimens at local arboretums. It does take quite a few years to reach mature height, but they will, you can be sure. Quite beautiful! And they grow great in shade. Deer have proven to be quite fond of them though. The Tyler Arboretum and the National Arboretum, and many more, have nice collections of mature trees. Worth the visit.
