The Gardener's Notepad
Sought after for it's rich blue-green foliage, but not always the best choice in Pennsylvania due to cold hardiness. Have seen considerable damage on young plantings after cold winters. Older, more established trees are generally unfazed, so there is a slight gamble in using the species as hedging. One never knows what the winter will bring. Fast growing, and responds well to pruning. The finest example of clipped x Leylandii that I've seen yet is at a golf course in the mountain country of North Carolina. Nearly a mile (more?) of them, sheared to perfection. About 7 ft tall and 4 ft wide. The definition of job security.
