The Gardener's Notepad
A cross between I. aquifolium and I. pernyi with a strong pyramidal habit. Very shade tolerant but prefers sun. There is a particularly fine example in our display garden which is about 8 ft. tall and 4 ft. wide. ...Which is planted too close to two (had been three) massive Cham. pisifera 'Gold Mop'. The holly will stay. The 'Gold Mop' brothers have been transformed into pom poms, and if that doesn't work out, other "measures" will have to be taken. Right about now I have the urge to pontificate about the importance of allowing enough room when planting things beside each other, but I'm the guy who stuck a deciduous Rhododendron less than 3 ft. from said Holly... Because I wanted to, that's why!
